笹野一刀彫
Sasano Ittobori Ancient Poppo Red/Black Set Interior Ornament
What is Sasano Ittobori?
Sasano Ittobori is a religious toy that has been passed down for over a thousand years by farmers living in the Sasano district of Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture.
Traditional craftsmen carefully carve each piece out of wood such as koshiabura using a blade called a sarukiri.
A lucky charm for prosperity of descendants and protection from evil spirits
Representative works of Sasano Ittobori include "Chicken," "Shrimp," and "Hawk."
The phrase comes from the story that Uesugi Yozan, the lord of the Yonezawa domain, recommended frugality and hard work in order to carry out financial reforms, and that if one ``gets up early like a chicken'' and ``has many descendants like a cuckoo,'' then ``one's stipend will skyrocket.''
This ancient Poppo is a reproduction of the Otaka Poppo that was made long ago.
Recommended as a gift for auspicious occasions such as celebrating the birth of a child.
Size: Height approx. 150 mm
