Yotsume dyed cloth | Gama mouth | SASHIKO Aonori | Blue color Neibi
The cloth dyed using the "Katazome" technique is the surface.
Since the entire process from pattern making to dyeing is done by hand, even the same pattern has individual characteristics.
Sometimes the frame shakes, or the pattern is not uniform — such handmade work creates a “shaking” that somehow brings out a lovingly warm expression. It is an item that cannot be expressed digitally, but can be felt as the breath of a human hand.
Daily added usability and feeling
It is large enough to fit snugly in both hands and does not feel bulky even when put in a bag.
Moreover, small items such as lip cream or makeup tools also fit inside, giving it just the right size feeling.
Because it is a mouth opening, the opening is wide and smooth. You can open it with one hand and quickly take out or put in what you need, making it very convenient.
The quality you feel every time you hold it
The metal fittings use brass, giving a nostalgic and well-worn atmosphere.
The inside is lined with thick fabric, finished with a secure and comfortable feel.
The contrast with the dyed cloth on the outside is exquisite, and every time you open it, it adds a slight wobble.
Each piece imbued with thought
The cloth is made using the "Yotsume Katazome" technique.
In our dyeing workshop, we apply patterns to the cloth using the traditional Japanese techniques of "Katazome" and "Tsubozome," creating products such as pouches and others.
The surface of the cloth uses "Katazome."
Katazome begins with making a stencil from original paper. The stencil is placed on the cloth, and a paste made from rice bran or soybeans is applied. The areas with paste do not get dyed, becoming the white parts of the pattern.
Once the paste dries, dye is applied with a brush. If it is a single color, it finishes in one go, but when dyeing with multiple colors, each color is applied layer by layer as if painting a picture.
Finally, when the paste is washed off with water, the pattern clearly appears and, once dried, is complete.
Thus, after a long process, one cloth is completed, and it takes shape as a Gama mouth pouch.
Stencils found only here
All the stencils for "Yotsume Katazome" are original. Therefore, this design can only be found here.
While evoking the image of a Japanese-style motif reminiscent of a thorn, it also has a Western atmosphere like a check pattern, making it a design easy to incorporate even in Japanese-Western mixed styles without any dullness.
