Price 4,180円 (Tax included)

The cloth made using the "katazome" technique is hand-dyed.

Since the entire process from stencil making to dyeing is done by hand, each stencil has its own unique character.

When the stencil shakes or the patterns are not uniform—such handcrafted details create a charming, warm expression. This is an item that can convey the breath of human hands, something digital methods cannot express.

The "gama mouth" is made using the "Yotsume dyed cloth" technique.
In our dyeing workshop, we apply traditional Japanese techniques such as "katazome" (stencil dyeing) and "tubegaki" (pipe drawing) to create patterns on cloth, which are then used as the base material for products like the gama mouth.

The surface of the gama mouth is dyed using "katazome."
Katazome starts with making an original stencil pattern. The stencil is placed on the cloth, and a paste made of rice bran or rice bran ash is applied. The parts covered with the paste do not get dyed, creating the white parts of the pattern.

After the paste dries, dye is applied with a brush. If using a single color, it is completed in one go, but when using multiple colors, each color is layered one by one as if painting a picture.

Finally, when the paste is washed off with water, the pattern suddenly floats up vividly, and when dried, the product is complete.

In this way, a long process is undertaken to complete one piece of cloth, transforming it into a gama mouth.
