Gamaguchi Coin Purse - Floral Cloth Red よつめ染布舎

Price $1,027.00 TWD (tax included)

This coin purse uses fabric finished with the stencil-dyeing technique called "katagami-zome".

Because the process from making the stencil to dyeing is done by hand, each piece has its own character even with the same pattern.

The slightly uneven outlines or irregular patterns — these handcraft “variations” create an endearing, warm expression. This is an item where you can feel the human touch that digital methods cannot reproduce.

*The pattern placement varies depending on the cutting location, so you cannot choose the exact pattern position. Please understand this in advance.

A comfortable feel that accompanies your daily life

Sized to fit comfortably in both hands and not bulky in a bag.
It’s also just the right size to hold small items like lip balm or makeup tools.

Because it’s a coin purse, the opening is wide and the opening/closing is smooth. You can snap it open with one hand and quickly take out what you need, making it very convenient.

Made with care, one by one

The coin purses are made by "Yotsume Senpukusha".
At this dyeing studio they apply patterns to fabric using traditional Japanese techniques such as "katagami-zome" (stencil dyeing) and "tsutsugaki" (tube-resist dyeing), and use those fabrics as materials to create items like coin purses.

The exterior fabric of the coin purse uses katagami-zome.
Katagami-zome begins with creating an original stencil. The stencil is placed on the fabric and a paste made from ingredients like glutinous rice and rice bran is brushed on. The areas covered with paste do not receive dye and become the white parts of the pattern.

Once the paste dries, dye is applied with a brush. For a single color it can be done in one pass, but for multicolor pieces, each color is layered one by one as if painting a picture.

Finally, the paste is washed out with water, revealing the pattern clearly, and after drying the piece is complete.

Through this long process a single piece of fabric is completed and then transformed into a coin purse.

Patterns you won’t find anywhere else

All patterns from "Yotsume Senpukusha" are original. That’s why these designs can only be found here.

Circles, diamonds, straight lines, dots, spirals... multiple shapes combine to fill the small canvas of the coin purse.
The hand-drawn variations of the design, the soft expression unique to hand-dyeing, and the rounded shape together enhance its charm.
