About us
Fuwa Market (Fuwamarket) is a small lifestyle shop that started in 2025 in Ebetsu City, Hokkaido Prefecture.
Located near the historic Ebetsu Castle, it was born from the desire to convey the beauty and design of modern Japan to both domestic and international audiences.
Representative: Hidemi Nishida
The story of how Fuwa Market was born
Kikkake was when the representative, Nishida, thought about introducing Japanese sweets and crafts overseas.
However, he felt that it was difficult due to food export regulations and differentiation from other craft sites, and then he received a big hint from a product he encountered in Taiwan.
It was a product that presented traditional patterns in a modern, refined design.
In Japan, there are many cute, stylish, and sensory items.
However, the “Japanese design” introduced overseas tends to be biased towards motifs that are easy to understand, such as kabuki, ninja, old Japanese patterns, kanji characters, and anime characters.
Of course, these are also part of Japan’s charm.
But in the daily lives of Japanese people, there are not many opportunities to use such motifs.
In fact, Japan has many calm and refined designs.
However, they are not yet well known in the world.
While conveying the tradition of Japan, they are cute and match modern sensibilities.
We want to spread such designed products more worldwide.
From that idea, Fuwa Market was born.
The essence of product selection
At Fuwa Market, we select products from the following perspectives.
3 selection criteria
【Tradition】
Products that make use of techniques and materials handed down across Japan's regions.
【Design】
Designs that blend into modern life and make you want to keep using them for a long time.
【Empathy】
Being able to empathize with the maker's intentions, the background of production, and their approaches and way of working.
We want to offer products with a Japanese-inspired design that are not costly traditional crafts, but are easy to use in everyday life.
Items created by small workshops and artisans throughout Japan convey the local climate and aesthetic sensibilities of each region.
About the development of original products
We are also involved in the development of original textile products that modernize traditional Japanese patterns.
Together with external designers, we repeatedly test and combine traditional techniques with modern sensibilities to create designs.
The dyeing is done carefully by Kyoto craftsmen one by one by hand, producing cloth and paper products.
This original product “Happy Pattern Series” was highly evaluated by experts at an exhibition held in Kyoto.
Furthermore, it was selected as a product that especially conveys the goodness of Japan overseas in a project.
The design and idea unity, and high quality are highly rated.

Connection with the region and society
Fuwa Market has another important background.
The representative Nishida’s son has a developmental disorder, and they operate a welfare business that supports employment for people with disabilities.
Operations such as sealing and tagging of original products are carried out in cooperation with the welfare business.
Fuwa Market aims to be a shop that walks together with the region and society through manufacturing.
