Kiss-lock Purse — Minpu Seidai — よつめ染布舎

Price $1,027.00 TWD (tax included)

This clasp purse uses fabric finished with the katazome technique.

Because the stencil-making and dyeing are done by hand, each piece has its own character even with the same pattern.

The slightly wavering outlines and uneven patterns — those hand-crafted “irregularities” create a charming, warm expression. This is an item that conveys the breath of human hands, something digital methods cannot reproduce.

*Because the pattern appearance varies depending on the cutting location, you cannot choose the pattern placement. Please understand this in advance.

Comfort suited to everyday life

Sized to fit snugly in both hands, it won’t take up much room in your bag.

Because it’s a clasp purse, the opening is wide and opens and closes smoothly. You can snap it open with one hand and quickly take out what you need, making it very convenient.

Made with care, one by one

The clasp purses are made by "Yotsume Senpukusha".
At this dye workshop, traditional Japanese techniques such as katazome and tsutsugaki are used to apply patterns to fabric, which are then turned into products like clasp purses.

The outer fabric of the clasp purse uses katazome.
Katazome begins by creating a stencil from an original design. The stencil is placed on the fabric, and a paste made by mixing glutinous rice or rice bran is brushed on. The areas covered with paste do not dye and become the white parts of the pattern.

After the paste dries, dye is applied with a brush. For a single color it can be done in one go, but for multi-color pieces, each color is layered like painting a picture.

Finally, washing off the paste with water reveals the pattern clearly, and once dried, the piece is complete.

Through this lengthy process, a single piece of fabric is completed and then transformed into a clasp purse.

All patterns from "Yotsume Senpukusha" are original. That means these designs are only available here.
While reminiscent of traditional kasuri (ikat) patterns, the designs have a relaxed, almost Scandinavian-like touch, creating a gentle yet modern impression.
