Business Card Holder / Card Case Muryoka Indigo よつめ染布舎
This business card case is made from fabric dyed using the traditional katazome technique.
All pieces are handcrafted by artisans, so even the same pattern carries individual character in each item.
The pattern outlines may wobble or the dyeing may vary —
that “unevenness” brings out expressions and warmth that digital processes cannot produce.
*Because the pattern appearance varies depending on the cut, you cannot select the placement of the pattern. Please understand this in advance.
This card case sparks conversation
When you think of a business card case, plain leather ones are the norm.
But this card case makes an immediate impression.
There will surely be moments when someone says, “What a lovely card case.”
Easy to use
When opened, there are pockets on both sides, so you can separate your cards from the recipient’s, carry two types of cards, or use it however you like. It’s useful not only as a business card case but also as a card holder for collecting point cards.
Each one made with care
The business card cases are made by “Yotsume Senpukusha”.
At this dyeing studio, they apply patterns to fabric using traditional Japanese techniques such as katazome and tsutsugaki, and use that fabric as material to create products like business card cases.
They begin by creating a stencil with an original design. The stencil is placed on the fabric and a paste made from glutinous rice and rice bran is brushed on. The areas covered with paste do not take dye and become the white parts of the pattern.
Paste is applied freehand, like piping whipped cream. The parts left white by the paste are the same as in katazome, but tsutsugaki’s major feature is the freedom of expression possible with hand-drawing.
For either technique, the subsequent process is the same.
Once the paste dries, dye is applied with brushes. For single colors it’s done in one pass, but for multicolor pieces they layer each color one by one as if painting a picture.
Finally, when the paste is washed away with water the pattern emerges clearly, and once dried the piece is complete. In this way a single piece of cloth is completed after a long process and then transformed into a business card case.
Patterns you won’t find anywhere else

All patterns from “Yotsume Senpukusha” are original. That means these designs are available only here.
The pattern used on this card case, called “Muryouka,” is actually an imaginary flower conceived by Yutaka Ono of Yotsume Senpukusha. Because it’s a floral motif born from the creator’s imagination and doesn’t exist in reality, it’s a special design you can only get here.
