To Pass Down the Traditional "Aizome Hemp" to Future Generations
The Aizome Hemp (Aizome Men) used in this pouch is a traditional craft product from the Aizu region located in the western part of Fukushima Prefecture, which has been handed down for over 400 years.
Developed to suit the harsh, cold winters and hot summers of the Aizu basin climate, this material has been loved as everyday and workwear since ancient times. Due to the thickness of the fabric and the nature of the manufacturing process, it contains a lot of air, making it excellent in moisture absorption, water absorption, and heat retention. It is cool and refreshing in summer and warm in winter. Also, because of its thickness, it is durable and resistant to wear even after washing.
This Aizome Hemp is the only factory in Aizu that handles everything from "dyeing to weaving," called the Harayama Textile Factory, which has preserved the tradition for about 120 years.
To protect the technology and spirit of the Harayama Textile Factory, the same factory was succeeded and established as "Harappa Co., Ltd." in March 2015. It was founded by Ms. Nana Yamazoe, a designer of the apparel brand "YAMMA," which used Aizome Hemp from the Harayama Textile Factory in Ono City, Fukushima Prefecture.
The Aizome Hemp, which has supported workwear and everyday wear until now, and the spirit of craftsmanship cherished by the Harayama Textile Factory, intertwined with 500 to 600 years of history, is used in this pouch.
Embracing the Spirit of "Using Carefully" and "Craftsmanship"
Ms. Nana Yamazoe, the representative of Harappa Co., Ltd., has valued the apparel brand "YAMMA" long before taking over the Harayama Textile Factory and has cherished the following principles.
Without being swayed by trends or mass production, creating clothes that can be worn with love for a long time.
"The experience of continuing to use one item carefully leads to the wearer’s confidence," is her way of thinking.
Aizome Hemp, which can be used regardless of summer or winter and lasts a long time, is exactly the material that fits Ms. Yamazoe’s philosophy. Also based on this thinking, both YAMMA and HARAPPA have adopted a style of made-to-order production that allows customers to use their products with love.
However, as the number of orders increases, they faced the challenge of making customers wait. Therefore, Ms. Yamazoe proposed "designs that are not restricted by trends or age and can be used comfortably for a long time," and continues to shape items with this concept.
One of these is this pouch. There are no gimmicks, but it can be loved and used for a long time without being affected by trends or age.
