The infinite waves are a symbol of abundance
Large, overlapping waves and small, calm waves. The Seigaiha pattern is a pop design where large and small arches overlap like scales.
It is a motif with great meaning for people living near the sea around the world, and it can be seen not only in Japan but also in Egypt and Persia.
It also appears in the Heian period’s elegant monogatarishu (tale literature) and became popular among commoners during the Edo period.
