Kyoto (hand-printed) Tenugui towel, Iris and iris x pale flower color, Miyako Modan
This hand-printed tenugui towel delicately depicts the wax plum and pussy willow flowers that bloom at the Imperial Palace as winter flowers of Kyoto .
What is hand printing?
Hand printing is a method in which a stencil is made for each color and the color paste is applied to the fabric one color at a time using a spatula.
This requires the skilled technique of measuring the degree of dye penetration. The delicacy of the patterns and the penetration of the colors are unique to Kyo-Yuzen hand printing.
