Japanese Handwoven Straw Hats Born from Wisteria and Bamboo Bark
Located at the foothills of the mountains and the cold river, this workshop inherits the traditional Japanese craft of straw hat making. From planting rice and harvesting wisteria, to collecting bamboo bark, the entire process—from stripping, weaving, sun drying, to pressing—takes a full year to complete by hand. Although the peak period has dropped to less than 1%, even now, these straw hats, essential for festivals and the world of performing arts, are preserved while nurturing young artisans, connecting tradition to the future.
