From stencil making to dyeing, the entire process is handmade, so even with the same pattern, each piece has its own character.

When the stencil vibrates or the pattern is uneven—such handmade work creates a "vibration" that brings out a warmly lovable expression. This is an item that cannot be expressed digitally; you can feel the breath of human hands.

Its size fits snugly in both hands and it’s not bulky even when placed in a bag.
Moreover, it can hold small items such as lip cream and makeup tools, giving a just-right sense of size.
Because it has a wide opening, the opening and closing are smooth. You can easily open it with one hand and quickly take out or put in what you need, making it very convenient.

The metal fittings use brass, giving a nostalgic and well-worn atmosphere.

The inside is lined with thick fabric, making it sturdy and giving a sense of security.

The contrast with the dyed fabric on the outside is exquisite, adding a little sparkle every time you open it.

Each piece carries a thought

Making the Gama Mouth is done with the "Yotsume Dyed Fabric" technique.
In our dyeing workshop, we use traditional Japanese techniques such as "Katazome" and "Tsubozome" to stencil patterns onto fabric, creating products like Gama Mouth.

The fabric surface of the Gama Mouth uses "Katazome."
Katazome starts with making stencil paper from original designs. The stencil paper is placed on the fabric, and a paste made from rice bran or rice flour is applied as a resist.
The areas covered by the paste do not dye, creating the white parts of the pattern.

After the paste dries, dye is applied with a brush.
If it is a single color, one application is enough, but when dyeing with multiple colors, each color is applied and layered as if painting a picture.

Finally, when the paste is washed off with water, the pattern emerges clearly and vividly, completing the process.

In this way, through a long process, a single piece of fabric is completed, and it gradually takes shape as a Gama Mouth.

All stencils for "Yotsume Dyed Fabric" are original. Therefore, this design is only available here and cannot be found elsewhere.
While evoking the image of a Japanese-style motif, it also conveys a Western-style atmosphere like a checkered pattern. It is a design easy to incorporate into Japanese fabrics without indigo dyeing.
