Color variations of the Nanten Pattern Goshuincho

Nanten is a plant that has been cherished since ancient times as a "demon repellent" and "evil expeller."

We designed a modern style that subtly dyes good motifs from the origin.

The colors come in a warm red series and

a gentle blue series in two colors.

While the colors blend softly, each has its own personality, making them ideal as an item that colors your goshuincho journey.

※Because the large paper is cut to make it, there are individual differences in the placement of the pattern. Please understand.

The fusion of refined design and craftsmanship

This goshuincho is a special masterpiece carefully crafted one by one by Kyoto’s skilled craftsmen at the binding workshop.

Hand-dyed Japanese paper is used on the exterior. The subtle differences in each piece’s expression demonstrate the unique character of each sheet.

Enrich your enjoyment of visiting shrines and temples

The size of the goshuincho is approximately 18cm by 12cm, a large B6 size. It is a convenient size that allows you to easily attach your goshuin stamps in an orderly manner.

The snake belly style has a total of 48 pages inside (24 sheets).

Since it is folded and stacked like an accordion, you can see multiple goshuin stamps at a glance when spread out.

Of course, as a goshuincho, it is versatile for mini notebooks, scratch books, travel notes, recipe notes, collections of works, and more, which is also a charm.

Each time you use it, your heart calms, making your shrine and temple visits even richer moments.

Detailed craftsmanship of hand-dyed Japanese paper

The hand-dyed Japanese paper used in this goshuincho is an original of Fuwa Market. Skilled artisans in Kyoto’s specialized workshop handcraft each piece with friendly hand-dyeing.

The traditional technique creates a deep color and a unique blend that is enchanting. Looking at the edges, you can feel the delicate layering of colors unique to hand-dyeing.

Subtle gradations and shading bring out a unique beauty that cannot be expressed by machine work.

Each copy is carefully dyed by hand, creating a warmth and depth that simple prints cannot express.

The craftsmanship brings out the refined Japanese beauty in every detail. Each time you use it, you can feel the meaning of Japanese traditional craftsmanship and patterns.

Produced by skilled artisans, please experience the charm of this blend of warmth and design.

Wishes and prayers woven into traditional patterns

【Nanten Pattern】

The demon-repelling Nanten

Nanten is a plant handed down from China during the Heian period, treasured as a medicinal herb that suppresses evil.

From the end of autumn to the beginning of winter, the plant bears many gentle red berries, and it is cherished as a tree that "turns hardship into happiness."

Also, placing it at the entrance is believed to ward off bad spirits, giving the meaning of demon repelling.

In the Edo period’s Hyakka Jiten (encyclopedia), it states, "Planting Nanten prevents fire disasters," and many households planted it in corners of their homes as a fire prevention measure, protecting their homes.

People have long wished for vitality and longevity from the strong life force, for luck from the broad leaves, and for good fortune from the yellow-gold leaves, expressing their hopes in the shape of the plant.
